Japanese Tea Culture Interpreted: A Creative Exhibition at Copenhagen Contemporary

Sing Tehus x Copenhagen Contemporary

19 September - 27 October

Sing Tehus is hosting an exhibition on modern tea culture at Copenhagen Contemporary from 19 September to 27 October. Selected artists from Denmark and Japan interpret and reflect on Japanese tea culture through experimental works in ceramics, architecture and carpentry.
Hans Vangsø and Anne Fløche create ceramic works with techniques and motifs that have roots in Japan, while their works take shape and colour from the landscapes of their home in Mols. As art the pieces mediate between the relatable scales of the human realm and the unpredictable nature of geology and earthly materials.

Architect Alex H. Lee has designed for the event a new teahouse with the carpenter duo of Akiko Kuwahata and Ken Winther. Named Kyu-an, it is an ephemeral space existing within the tension between a few slender pieces of wood and string alone.
