These beautiful black jasmine beads come from Yunnan, specifically Simao (since 2007 also called Puยดer city) located in a mountainous area.
It's an area that usually has abundant rainfall and fertile soil, which is suitable for growing tea.
The area is inhabited by many ethnic tribes, including the Yi and Dai minority, who have a long history of tea cultivation and production. The cultivar Da ye Zhong is commonly used for tea cultivation in Yunnan province and also for this tea.
The large, beautiful tea leaves have drawn natural flavour from the jasmine flowers as they lie with the jasmine flowers for 15 hours and draw flavour. This process is repeated 3 times.
The tea is hand-picked as machine picking is not possible in large parts of the mountainous region. After picking, the tea leaves are left to release moisture (withering) for 4-8 hours, after which the leaves are dried for 1-2 hours in 40-60 degree heat.
The flavour is soft, with a floral scent. It is a large-leaf tea with a bright red colour in the cup, a perfect blend of soft black tea and jasmine.
