Hojicha, roasted tea


Japanese Green tea that has a more rustic look after the tea leaves have been toasted over charcoal. Hojicha is a very popular accompaniment with food in Japan, as it is both sweet and mouth-watering. The rustic structure results in the leaf tissue content being reduced and thus also the caffeine content.

This tea is from our producer Hoshino Seicha in Yame, Fukuoka, Japan.

Hojicha is also suitable as iced tea.

Sweet, nutty flavor.

Ingredients: Toasted green tea.


Hojicha should be brewed in a small teapot or directly in a glass.

  • Remove the kettle at the moment the water starts to boil.
  • Use 2-3 grams per. cup (200ml)
  • Pour the water over the leaves at 85 – 95ºc
  • Let the tea draw for 2-3 minutes and serve.

The tea leaves can be reused 2-3 times with gradually extended draw time.
