Hojicha is a toasted green tea with a sweet and nutty flavour. An underestimated Japanese tea that is well-suited to the evening meal as it has a low caffeine content.
Hojicha consists of a large number of twigs and leaves, which are gathered from the surplus leaves and twigs from the production of gyokuro and sencha, where the coarse parts of the leaf are sorted out. These twigs and leaves are still flavoursome and delicate and therefore are used in a process where they are toasted to become Hojicha.
