Hakusan Porcelain Co., Ltd. was founded in 1779 in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, and has existed in its present form since 1958.
The town of Hasami has a 400-year tradition of pottery production, and many companies are still active, producing mainly teacups and teapots. The local porcelain is known for its transparency and whiteness. The designer Masahiro Mori, one of Japan’s well-known figures in design and layout, has been designing the design line for Hakusan for the past 40 years, making Hakusan the leading porcelain manufacturer in Japan after the war. The company has a long history of producing high quality porcelain products and has been awarded prizes such as “Good Design” and “Long Life Design” awards. Hakusan porcelain is an example of the simple elegance of Japanese design.
